The Barceló Hotel Group has announced the management of the Barceló Fortina Malta, a modern, avant-garde design hotel in the Mediterranean archipelago of Malta, owned by the Maltese company Fortina Investments Limited. The iconic building, located on the Sliema promenade, has been completely renovated and transformed into a modern 5-star hotel with 183 rooms, and will open its doors on 18 September 2023 as a 5-star hotel operated by the Barcelo Hotel Group.

Located on the Sliema promenade, Barceló Fortina Malta is characterised by its modern and elegant architecture, as well as its panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea and the fortified city of Valletta, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980.

The hotel reopened after an extensive renovation and extension of the original facilities, transforming it into a modern 5-star property with 183 rooms. The newly refurbished five-star property includes an Ina Wellness Centre, a Reflex Gym and a heated indoor pool, as well as a stylish new lido with two restaurants and a lounge bar to complement the hotel’s culinary offerings. The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of Malta’s largest shopping centre.

The Barceló Fortina Malta will have six meeting rooms with a capacity of up to 250 people, fully equipped to host any type of event. This makes it the ideal hotel for travellers visiting Malta on business and wishing to extend their stay to enjoy the historic city and the hotel’s facilities.

José Canals, Regional Director for the Mediterranean, Middle East and Asia, Barceló Hotel Group, said: “The agreement with Fortina Investments Limited is the result of our extensive experience in managing urban and beachfront hotels in various destinations around the world. Malta is an island with great tourism experience due to its rich history and cultural heritage; this new hotel will allow us to further increase our presence in the Mediterranean, a strategic area for the company’s expansion plan”.

Edward Zammit Tabona, CEO of Fortina Investments Limited, said: “We are very pleased to have reached an agreement with the Barceló Hotel Group. This prestigious hotel chain has extensive experience in the management of luxury hotels. Recognised for its high level of service and extensive commercial network, the Barceló Hotel Group will help position Barceló Fortina Malta as one of Malta’s premier luxury hotels”.
