Crystalbrook Collection Reveals New Canberra Hotel Name and Interior Design

by Alice

Crystalbrook Collection has announced the name of its new hotel in Canberra. The hotel will be called Crystalbrook Aurora. Construction is now moving ahead, with hoarding in place and groundwork starting in the city.

The name Aurora is inspired by the idea of a new dawn. It represents a fresh start for Canberra’s hospitality scene. The name also connects to the city’s history, as it was once considered as a possible name for Canberra itself.

The hotel’s design takes inspiration from Canberra’s architectural heritage. The building features a curved facade influenced by nearby parliamentary buildings. Inside, the design honors the city’s origins, especially the work of Marion Mahony Griffin. She was one of the first licensed female architects in the world and played a key role in shaping Canberra.

Marion Mahony Griffin worked with her husband, Walter Burley Griffin, to create Canberra’s unique blend of natural landscape and modern architecture. The hotel reflects her pioneering spirit through a bright central skylight atrium and plenty of greenery. This design blends indoor and outdoor spaces smoothly.

Geoff York, CEO of Crystalbrook Collection, said, “As we grow Crystalbrook Collection across Australia, Canberra is a strategic investment. It gives us a chance to help shape the future of hospitality in the country.”

He added that visitor spending in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) reached $3.6 billion in the year ending December 2024. This is expected to grow to $5 billion by 2030. York said the hotel, developed with local partners TP Dynamics, will support this growth by offering new dining, meeting, and event spaces for both visitors and residents.

Guests at Crystalbrook Aurora can expect rooms designed with timeless style, wellness spaces, and high-quality dining and entertainment. These elements reflect Canberra’s culture and modern energy.

Ghassan Aboud, founder of Crystalbrook Collection, said, “Revealing Crystalbrook Aurora’s identity is an exciting step. This project shows our commitment to investing in fast-growing and culturally important locations. We aim to deliver hotels that represent the future of responsible luxury.”

The hotel will be 10 storeys tall with 225 rooms and suites. It will feature a rooftop restaurant serving modern European cuisine, ground-floor dining, luxury retail shops, and flexible event spaces. There will also be a wellness area including the Eleme Day Spa, sauna, pool, and gym.

Tony Pan, founder of TP Dynamics, said, “Crystalbrook Aurora will become a new landmark in Canberra, located across from the iconic Canberra Centre on Garema Place. We are proud to partner with Crystalbrook Collection to create a lasting legacy in central Canberra’s revitalisation.”

The hotel follows Crystalbrook’s strong focus on responsible luxury. The group was the first in Australia to secure a Sustainability-Linked Loan with Commonwealth Bank. Several Crystalbrook hotels rank in the top 100 percentile on EarthCheck, a global sustainability certification platform.

At Crystalbrook Aurora, guests will find environmentally friendly features such as 100% waste-free bathrooms, recycled timber key cards and coat hangers, zero-waste coffee capsules through TerraCycle, and ‘Climate Calories’ labels to encourage mindful dining choices.
