Queensland Tourism Operators Offered $2,500 Digital Upgrade Rebate

Small and medium-sized tourism businesses in Queensland can now apply for a rebate of up to $2,500 to boost their digital capabilities, thanks to a new initiative from the Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC) in partnership with the Queensland Government.

The rebate aims to support operators as they face growing pressure to modernise their operations. Today’s tourists expect smooth digital interactions, quick online bookings, and secure payment systems. But for many smaller businesses, limited budgets, time, and technical expertise make it difficult to keep up.

“Today’s visitor is digitally connected, expects seamless experiences, and books on-the-go,” said QTIC Chief Executive Officer Natassia Wheeler. “Operators who aren’t keeping pace with this digital shift risk being left behind.”

Wheeler added that many businesses are struggling to manage online reputations, secure customer data, and maintain Queensland’s reputation for personalised service – all while adjusting to rapid digital changes.

Focus on Automation and Cybersecurity

The rebate program is designed to help tourism operators invest in tools that improve operational efficiency. This includes online booking systems, automated payment processes, and digital workflows. It also supports upgrades to customer-facing tools like websites, CRM systems, and social media platforms.

Cybersecurity and digital risk management are also key areas where the rebate can be used. Businesses can apply the funds toward data protection, digital compliance, and continuity planning.

“This rebate gives businesses the breathing room to invest in smart, practical upgrades that can drive real results,” Wheeler said. “Whether it’s a new booking engine or a stronger marketing strategy, the program helps tourism operators move forward.”

Success Stories from the Industry

The rebate program has already helped hundreds of Queensland businesses in earlier rounds. One such business is Amaze World, a family attraction on the Sunshine Coast.

Owner Adam Cheshire used the rebate last year to upgrade the digital point-of-sale system and improve the way guest feedback is collected.

“The Digital Adaption Program allowed Amaze World to digitise the process of collecting real-time feedback from our guests,” Cheshire said. “As a small business, the program helped us enhance the visitor experience and make informed decisions based on guest insights.”

The QTIC-administered rebate program is part of a broader push to ensure Queensland’s tourism industry stays competitive and connected in a fast-changing digital world.
