Nearly nine out of ten Japanese travellers intend to buy travel insurance for trips in 2025, according to the first Allianz Partners Travel Index.
The survey shows strong demand for insurance among outbound travellers. Rising travel costs and ongoing economic uncertainty are key reasons why many are prioritising safety and financial protection.
More than half of those planning to travel say they will get travel insurance either through credit card benefits or by purchasing it directly from travel websites. Travellers with bigger budgets are more likely to buy insurance online. They often prefer plans that offer more personalised or premium-level protection.
The survey included responses from 1,000 Japanese adults. While 62% said they do not plan to travel this year, mostly due to financial concerns, those who are going abroad are preparing carefully. Travel insurance is now a central part of this planning. It helps protect against risks like trip cancellations, medical emergencies, and lost luggage.
There are also clear differences between age groups. Older travellers, especially those aged 50 and above, are more worried about issues such as theft and accidents. This group is more likely to take extra precautions, including buying comprehensive insurance, to make their travel experience smoother and safer.
