by Alice

Alexander Dennis, a subsidiary of NFI Group Inc., has announced the delivery of 11 new Enviro200 single-deck buses to Compass Travel, an independent transport operator in the UK. This addition to their fleet will support new services in Brighton, provided in partnership with Brighton and Hove City Council.

The first batch of four buses arrived in April, with the remaining seven expected later this summer. These buses, which feature low-emission technology, are part of Compass Travel’s ongoing commitment to reducing its environmental impact. The operator is also a member of ALBUM, a group of municipal and independent transport providers.

Michael Bishop, Director of Compass Travel, emphasized the importance of the new Enviro200 buses in securing the new contract. “The addition of these low-emission buses has allowed us to offer a competitive bid for the Brighton and Hove City Council services. With this new fleet, we can ensure a high-quality, reliable experience for our customers. We are pleased to continue our partnership with Alexander Dennis as we grow our business,” Bishop said.

The new buses include ten 9.7-meter models, each with seating for 34 passengers, and one 8.9-meter model with 30 seats. The buses feature customized Camira seat coverings and are branded for the ‘CityBuzz’ routes. The buses are equipped with advanced passenger information systems, including destination displays and saloon monitors. An Elite hearing loop system and Ocular CCTV are also included to enhance accessibility and security.

The Enviro200 buses come with Alexander Dennis’ SmartPack technology, which integrates engine stop/start functionality, e-cooling, and auxiliary load management. According to testing by the Zemo Partnership, these buses offer a 24% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, earning them low-emission bus status. This allows Compass Travel to benefit from enhanced rates of the Bus Service Operators Grant (BSOG).

These 11 new buses will join 33 other Enviro200 models that Compass Travel has purchased since 2018, further strengthening the operator’s fleet.

Mark Taylor, Regional Sales Manager at Alexander Dennis, expressed his satisfaction with the ongoing partnership. “It’s great to see Compass Travel’s continued growth and investment in new, low-emission buses. We look forward to continuing our strong relationship with Michael and his team as they expand their services,” Taylor said.

The new additions will enhance Compass Travel’s ability to offer sustainable, high-quality public transportation in Brighton and surrounding areas.
