A new survey by Allianz Partners has revealed that many Indians are eyeing the UK and Europe for their next international holiday in 2025. According to the Allianz Travel Index 2025, nearly 47% of Indians planning to travel next year have saved at least 126,000 INR. This is more common among men and higher-income earners.
The survey, conducted by Kantar Consumer Link, interviewed over 1,000 Indian adults to understand their travel preferences and holiday aspirations. One of the key insights is that most Indian travelers are inclined to purchase travel insurance to ensure security and peace of mind during their trips.
Charu Kaushal, Managing Director at Allianz Partners India, commented on the survey findings, saying, “The Allianz Travel Index 2025 highlights the growing interest of Indian travelers in unique and experience-based journeys. As travel becomes more personalized, Allianz Partners India is committed to enhancing security and inspiring confidence for a safer travel experience.”
Top Destinations for Indian Travelers in 2025
The survey revealed that 25% of Indian travelers are planning to visit the UK and Europe for their next international vacation. In comparison, 18% plan to travel to other Asian countries, and 16% are looking towards destinations like Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific islands.
Cost and Safety Concerns Remain Major Barriers
Despite the strong interest in travel, cost remains a significant hurdle for many. Around 84% of Indians who are not planning to travel in 2025 said they either can’t afford the trip or find it too expensive.
Personal safety is another major concern for travelers. About 49% of Indians expressed worries about safety while traveling, and 48% are concerned about extreme weather events. However, travelers over the age of 50 tend to be less worried about safety issues compared to younger travelers.
Higher-income earners, particularly 42% of them, are more concerned about flight cancellations and delays.
Indians Opt for Travel Insurance
The survey also highlighted that 85% of Indians intending to travel in 2025 are likely to purchase travel insurance. This figure is particularly high among higher-income earners. When it comes to where they buy the insurance, 43% of travelers prefer to purchase it through a travel website, while 18% go directly to an insurance provider. Those not planning a trip are more likely to get insurance through a travel agent or skip it entirely.
The primary reason for buying travel insurance, cited by 61% of respondents, is to ensure security and peace of mind during their journeys.
As travel becomes more customized, the Allianz Travel Index 2025 underscores a growing trend in the Indian market: an increasing appetite for international travel combined with a focus on security and protection.
