Luxembourg will welcome a new landmark in luxury hospitality with the opening of Villa Pétrusse on June 16. The restored five-star hotel, housed in the historic Villa Baldauff, combines classic architectural elegance with the comforts of modern design. Guests can expect high-end accommodations, fine dining, and rich historical details throughout the property.
A Five-Year Transformation
Villa Pétrusse overlooks the scenic Pétrusse Valley and carries deep ties to Luxembourg’s past. Formerly known as Villa Baldauff, the building has undergone a complete renovation over the last five years. It was purchased in 2017 for €10 million by a private investment group. The restoration aimed to preserve the villa’s historic features while adapting it to the needs of modern travelers.
The exterior maintains its original grandeur. Inside, careful attention was given to preserving details like ornate ceilings, vintage tile floors, and stained glass windows. At the same time, modern touches were added to create a luxurious and functional space. The final phase of the renovation is now focused on polishing every detail before the official opening.
A Historic Discovery
During the restoration, workers uncovered a hidden tunnel that was part of the old casemates. This tunnel now links the main villa to the Pavilion, a former stable building that has been converted into guest rooms. The passage adds a sense of mystery and connects guests to the site’s historical roots.
Villa Pétrusse offers 22 rooms, each individually designed to reflect a blend of past and present. Rooms are located in both the main villa and the Pavilion. One of the highlights is the Pétrusse Suite, located on the first floor with sweeping valley views. Each room features custom furnishings and unique décor. The top floor, once used by staff, has been reimagined with a minimalist design that contrasts with the villa’s older elements.
Fine Dining at Le Lys
The hotel’s restaurant, Le Lys, aims to become one of the top dining spots in Luxembourg. The kitchen is led by a chef with ambitions for Michelin recognition. The menu features modern takes on local Luxembourgish cuisine, using seasonal and locally sourced ingredients.
Dishes will include creative versions of kniddelen (traditional dumplings), innovative tea pairings, and desserts inspired by family recipes. The menu will change with the seasons to keep the dining experience fresh and exciting.
Le Lys will offer four, six, and eight-course tasting menus, starting at €110. A daytime bistronomic menu will also be available, with starters priced between €15 and €20, main dishes up to €39, and desserts from €12 to €15. Breakfast, included in the room rate, will feature Luxembourgish meats, cheeses, and pastries.
Luxury Suites and Amenities
Villa Pétrusse offers several high-end suites, including the Gëlle Fra Suite in the Pavilion. This room features modern design, round windows, and an open-plan bathroom. For private meetings or small events, guests can use the “Salon Edouard André,” named after a noted Luxembourgish landscape architect. The salon can host up to ten guests in an intimate, refined setting.
The villa’s ground floor still shows traces of the building’s past, including the rails of a personal train once used by the original owner. These details provide a unique link between history and modern hospitality. Guests will also have access to a full fitness center.
A Symbol of Luxury and Culture
The €40 million renovation of Villa Pétrusse is a major investment in preserving cultural heritage while offering modern luxury. The project has transformed a historic property into a destination that celebrates both history and innovation.
With its opening in June, Villa Pétrusse is expected to become one of Luxembourg’s premier addresses for business travelers, tourists, and event guests alike. Its blend of historical elegance, fine dining, and personalized service sets a new standard in the country’s hotel scene.
