Travelers from the United States will have more opportunities to visit Australia this winter, with American Airlines and Qantas increasing their flight schedules.
The two airlines, partners in a joint business agreement, are adding more flights to Australian cities such as Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne.
American Airlines will introduce a new route from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Brisbane (BNE). Starting December 5, 2025, the airline will operate three weekly flights until the end of January 2026. Tickets for this new service will be available for purchase starting May 12.
This new route is part of a broader effort to offer more flights to Australia. Together, American and Qantas will provide up to seven daily flights between Los Angeles and Brisbane during the winter months. All flights will be operated using Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners.
Winter is a popular time to visit Brisbane, which experiences its summer season during this period. The city, located in Queensland in northeastern Australia, is known for its beaches and surfing spots on the Gold Coast, as well as nearby natural attractions like the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest.
Qantas, for its part, will increase its service on the Dallas (DFW) to Melbourne (MEL) route, offering daily flights from December 3, 2025, through January 2026.
Additionally, American Airlines will resume its seasonal route between Dallas and Brisbane starting October 25. The carrier will operate the route using its new 787-9 Dreamliners, equipped with the latest Flagship Suites business class seats, which feature sliding privacy doors. These seats are now available for booking.
Steve Johnson, American Airlines’ Vice Chair and Chief Strategy Officer, commented, “American is proud to partner with Qantas to increase travel options for customers to Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne this winter. Together, we offer the most comprehensive service connecting the United States with Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific. This means more opportunities for our customers to plan vacations, visit family, or explore new destinations.”
In another update, Qantas will begin using its Airbus A380 planes for daily flights between Dallas and Sydney starting in January 2026. The double-decker aircraft will provide more seats and comfort for passengers traveling to Australia.
