A new Pirates of the Caribbean-themed tavern is coming to Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World later this year, Disney has announced.
The new venue, called The Beak and Barrel, will open in Adventureland. It is inspired by the popular Pirates of the Caribbean attraction and will welcome guests of all ages into a lively pirate-themed setting.
According to the Disney Parks Blog, the tavern was founded by the legendary rumrunner Captain Meridan “Merry” Goldwyn and her loyal first mate, Rummy. Visitors can expect a spirited experience as Rummy, now the tavern’s quartermaster, shares tales of high-seas adventures and leads guests in a festive toast. Though retired from the sea, Rummy is said to resemble the original Barker Bird, which once greeted guests at the entrance of the classic ride.
The main gathering area, known as “The Mess,” is the tavern’s largest room. It was once used by Spanish soldiers to swap stories. One side of the room features a large bar built with pieces from a shipwreck. In the center stands a skull-shaped stern filled with grogs and brews. A magical item called the Enchanted Rum Bottle is said to be the source of the tavern’s signature drinks. Suspended above the tables is a large anchor covered in melted candles and wax, adding to the atmosphere.
Another section, called the Captains’ Quarters, was once the residence of a Spanish comandante. It now offers a more refined space for guests to enjoy, though the worn drapes and marked-up artwork show clear signs of past sword fights.
Visitors should also keep an eye on the fireplace. Above it sits five miniature ships in bottles, representing pirate crews from across the globe who once united to fight oppression. In a magical twist, the bottles come to life and the ships continue their battle right before guests’ eyes.
Disney has yet to confirm the tavern’s exact opening date or share details about the food and drink menu, but more updates are expected soon.
