Air New Zealand Suspends Gold Coast to Christchurch Flights for 2025-2026 Season

by Alice

Air New Zealand has announced the temporary suspension of its Gold Coast to Christchurch flights from November 2025 to March 2026. The airline described the decision as a “difficult” one, driven by ongoing demand challenges, market conditions, and fleet limitations.

The suspension, which will only affect a small number of passengers, is part of the airline’s broader efforts to adjust its operations. Air New Zealand assured customers that it remains committed to providing reliable services across its network.

Travel agents were informed of the changes and were advised that updates would soon appear in their Global Distribution System (GDS). The airline recommended that agents contact Agency Sales Support for further assistance regarding customers affected by the schedule change.

Although this announcement is new, Air New Zealand had previously warned that some of its flight schedules would be impacted due to fleet constraints.

On its website, the airline explained that the suspension was necessary due to ongoing technical challenges with the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines on its Boeing 787 aircraft. While the engine issues do not pose a safety risk to passengers, they have forced the airline to pause certain routes temporarily.

Additionally, Air New Zealand highlighted the need to address mandatory maintenance for its Global Pratt & Whitney (P&W) engines, which has affected some of its grounded aircraft. A rare issue with the P&W1100 engines has also contributed to the decision.

Other routes impacted by the fleet limitations include Auckland to Chicago, Auckland to Noumea, and Auckland to Seoul.
