Six Flags Entertainment Corporation announced on May 1 that it will shut down its Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor parks in Bowie, Maryland, after the 2025 operating season.
The park, covering approximately 500 acres, will be put up for redevelopment and sold. The final day of operation will be November 2, 2025. All season passes and tickets will be valid until that date.
The closure will affect about 70 full-time employees. Eligible workers will receive severance and other benefits.
Richard A. Zimmerman, President and CEO of Six Flags, stated, “After a thorough review of our park portfolio, we have determined that Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor do not align with our company’s long-term growth strategy.”
Zimmerman added, “We believe selling the property for redevelopment will provide the best return on investment. We expect strong interest in the site and will continue to explore opportunities to optimize our portfolio for growth.”
The company emphasized that this closure will not impact its financial outlook for the year. Six Flags plans to invest $1 billion into enhancing its parks as part of its long-term growth plan.
Six Flags Entertainment Corporation currently operates 27 amusement parks, 15 water parks, and nine resorts across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
