Chinese travelers made an estimated 314 million domestic trips during the five-day May Day holiday, marking a 6.4% increase from last year, according to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
Spending during the holiday also saw a significant rise, reaching 180.3 billion yuan (around 25 billion U.S. dollars), reflecting an 8% year-on-year increase. This surge in spending underscores the continued strength of consumer activity in the country.
The May Day holiday, which ran from May 1 to May 5, is one of the busiest travel periods in China. Many people use the time to visit family, explore domestic destinations, or travel abroad. The increase in travel has provided a boost to key sectors including transportation, tourism, and retail.
