As the Golden Week holiday in mainland China came to an end on Monday, Hong Kong saw a significant increase in cross-border travel. By 4 p.m. that day, nearly 520,000 border crossings were recorded across all control points, according to the Immigration Department.
Of this total, approximately 260,000 people entered Hong Kong, with more than 180,000 of them being local residents. The Lo Wu checkpoint recorded the highest number of returning locals, followed by the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.
On the outbound side, over 259,000 departures were registered, including more than 65,000 mainland visitors leaving the city.
