Starting July 7, 2025, Murcia will launch its first-ever direct flight to France, thanks to Volotea. The new route will connect Murcia International Airport with Marseille-Provence, operating twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays. The service will offer around 5,000 seats across 32 flights in July and August. Tickets for this highly anticipated route are now available for booking, marking a major step forward for the region’s travel network.
Strengthening Ties Between Murcia and Southern France
The launch of direct flights to Marseille is an important development in expanding Murcia’s international connectivity. France is Murcia’s second-largest international market, and until now, travelers from the region had to make connecting flights through other European cities to reach France. The new direct service will provide easy access to one of France’s most popular cities, Marseille, known for its rich culture, stunning coastline, and proximity to Calanques National Park.
This new connection will not only benefit residents of Murcia, who will now have a direct route to southern France, but also attract French tourists to the region, eager to explore Murcia’s beaches and historic sites.
Enhanced Barcelona Service and Regional Access
In addition to the Marseille route, Volotea is also boosting its service between Murcia and Barcelona. From June 2025 to March 2026, Volotea will add 37,700 additional seats on this route, with new flights operating on Mondays and Fridays. This increase will provide more flexibility for both business and leisure travelers heading to Barcelona, a key cultural and economic hub in Spain.
With Barcelona being a major destination for both tourism and business, the expanded service will improve access for Murcia residents and visitors alike, making travel between these two cities more convenient.
Expanding Murcia’s European Reach
The new Marseille route is a significant step in expanding Murcia’s European accessibility. With this addition, Murcia will be directly connected to 23 airports across seven European countries. France, being a key market for Murcia, will benefit greatly from this new service, making travel easier for both tourists and business professionals.
This new direct link to Marseille strengthens Murcia’s position as a gateway to southern Spain, as France continues to be an important source of visitors to the region.
Tourism Growth for Murcia
The direct flight to Marseille comes at a time when the Region of Murcia is gaining recognition as a popular destination for tourists and investors. The new route is expected to attract more French visitors, drawn by the region’s culture, history, and Mediterranean charm.
Since Volotea began operating flights to Bilbao and Asturias in 2019, the airline has transported nearly 200,000 passengers from Murcia. The new Marseille route is set to further boost international tourism to the region, making it easier for people to experience Murcia’s warm climate, beautiful beaches, and historic landmarks.
