Starhotels has announced its acquisition of the Hermitage Hotel & Resort, a prestigious eco-friendly family retreat located in Forte dei Marmi, Italy. Surrounded by lush pine forests and overlooking the Alpi Apuane mountains, the resort offers a serene and sustainable getaway.
Originally founded in the 1970s by the Maschietto family, the Hermitage Hotel was later renovated by architect Vittorio Maschietto. The resort features 59 rooms and suites, a refined bar and restaurant, and a large swimming pool set amidst the parkland. The property also boasts a vegetable garden that serves the hotel’s restaurant, reinforcing its eco-friendly ethos.
The hotel will officially join Starhotels’ Collezione portfolio at the end of the 2025 summer season, marking the company’s significant expansion into the resort segment. This acquisition strengthens Starhotels’ position in the luxury Italian market and adds one of Italy’s most beloved coastal destinations to its offerings. Forte dei Marmi, known for its elegance and high-end tourism, is seen as a key location in the company’s growth strategy.
Elisabetta Fabri, president and CEO of Starhotels, expressed her excitement, saying, “If there is a place in Italy that embodies the essence of Italian living, it is Forte dei Marmi. We are thrilled to add the Hermitage Hotel & Resort to our Collezione portfolio as our first resort.”
Fabri also highlighted the significance of the acquisition, noting that it takes place in Tuscany, where Starhotels began 45 years ago. She added, “This historic hotel will become the first exclusive family resort in the area, offering activities and services for both individual guests and families. The hotel will also feature a new spa and remain open during the spring and autumn seasons.”
Under Starhotels’ management, the Hermitage will retain its unique identity while benefiting from the company’s expertise in high-end hospitality. Planned investments will further enhance the guest experience, with a focus on new services, sustainable initiatives, and refined luxury offerings that align with the resort’s natural surroundings.
The Hermitage acquisition is part of Starhotels’ broader growth strategy for 2024-2025. In September 2024, the iconic Hotel d’Inghilterra in Rome will reopen. Summer 2025 will see the opening of Hotel Gabrielli in Venice and Teatro Luxury Apartments in Florence, both under the Starhotels Collezione banner.
These developments underscore Starhotels’ commitment to expanding its luxury presence across various high-end hospitality segments while maintaining its reputation for excellence.
