Melbourne Airport has awarded a new contract to SkyBus, owned by Kinetic, to provide both airside and landside transportation services.
SkyBus has been serving the airport for nearly 20 years, offering bus connections between the terminals, the value car park, and staff car park. The new three-year contract expands SkyBus’s role to include airside services, which were previously outside their scope.
As part of the agreement, SkyBus will upgrade its buses that serve the value car park pick-up area. The new buses will feature on-board information screens that will provide passengers with details on upcoming stops and the estimated time of arrival at each terminal.
This contract builds on SkyBus’s well-known express services that link the airport with Melbourne’s central business district (CBD).
Jim Parashos, Melbourne Airport’s Chief of Aviation, highlighted SkyBus as a long-time trusted partner.
“SkyBus has been with us for over 30 years, and we look forward to continuing our partnership to offer a seamless experience for travellers,” he said. “This new contract will improve ground transportation services, with SkyBus expanding its role to include airside bus services on the tarmac. With passenger numbers expected to exceed 76 million by 2042, strengthening our transport solutions is crucial.”
Melbourne Airport, the busiest airport in Australia with no curfew, welcomes more than 35 million passengers annually. The new contract underscores SkyBus’s vital role in supporting both landside and airside passenger movement.
SkyBus, now in its fourth decade of service at Melbourne Airport, provides value and staff car park services, along with frequent and cost-effective transfers between the airport and the CBD.
Across Australia, SkyBus transports nearly 3 million passengers each year between major city centres and airports in Melbourne, Avalon, and Hobart.
Michael Sewards, CEO of Kinetic, SkyBus’s parent company, expressed pride in continuing the partnership with Melbourne Airport.
“It’s an honour to maintain SkyBus’s 40-year-long relationship with Melbourne Airport,” she said. “SkyBus has a strong presence in the airport services industry, and we are excited to continue supporting the airport’s growth and success.”
