Starlux Airlines is expanding its global network with new Airbus A350 aircraft and plans to launch more routes to North America. By 2026, the airline will also add its first European destination, further solidifying its international growth.

The Taiwanese airline is on a mission to become a global aviation leader, with a strong expansion strategy that includes new aircraft, expanded operations in Southeast Asia, and the introduction of routes to the US and Europe in the coming years.

Fleet Expansion and Aircraft Deliveries

A key part of Starlux’s growth plan is upgrading its fleet. By 2027, the airline plans to add 48 new passenger aircraft to its fleet, with an additional 10 cargo planes set to join by 2029.

Starlux has made significant progress with its wide-body fleet. According to Liu Yunfu, the airline’s Chief Strategy Officer, Starlux has already received all 10 of its Airbus A350-900 aircraft. Although delays in the supply chain have pushed back the arrival of A350-1000 aircraft, the airline is set to receive its first A350-1000 in 2024. Five more will arrive in 2025, and the final two are expected in 2027. These delays have not slowed the airline’s expansion, as it continues to build a larger narrow-body fleet alongside additional A330 aircraft.

Expanding US Routes

In its efforts to strengthen connections between Southeast Asia and North America, Starlux plans to add more US routes. Starting in June 2025, the airline will begin flying to Ontario International Airport (ONT) on the US West Coast. The airline’s North American routes are performing well, with an average load factor of around 80%. Additional route announcements are expected in early 2025.

As the airline receives more A350-1000 aircraft, it will be able to expand its service to more US cities. Texas, Chicago, New York, and Washington D.C. are all under consideration, with new route announcements scheduled for the first quarter of 2025.

Southeast Asia and Regional Growth

Starlux’s operations within Southeast Asia have been promising, with load factors approaching 85% in early 2024. While the airline is not adding new routes in the region this year, it is increasing flight frequencies and using larger aircraft on existing routes to meet demand.

The airline is also planning to strengthen its presence in Indonesia, with new flights to Bali (DPS) set to begin in 2025. In addition, Starlux is adjusting its Manila service due to slot constraints at Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL). The airline temporarily moved flights to Clark International Airport (CRK) and is working to find a better schedule.

Plans for European Expansion

Europe is a key focus for Starlux as the airline works toward launching its first European destination by 2026. The airline’s existing fleet of A350-900 aircraft is capable of flying to central, western, and southern Europe. With the recent signing of an aviation agreement between Taiwan and Finland, Starlux has secured the right to fly to Helsinki (HEL), which could become its first European destination.

Strengthening the Regional Network

As part of its global expansion, Starlux is also focusing on strengthening its regional network in Southeast Asia. The airline plans to gradually increase capacity to countries like Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines, complementing its long-haul services. This will help ensure a smooth flow of passengers between Southeast Asia and Starlux’s growing international destinations.

With a rapidly expanding fleet, new international routes, and strategic growth plans, Starlux Airlines is positioning itself to become a major player in the global aviation industry. Its commitment to excellent service and a strong regional network will help secure its place among the world’s top carriers in the years ahead.
