Air China will resume its direct flights between Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) starting May 20, 2025. This marks the airline’s return to the Canadian market after a 33-year absence.
The airline will operate two weekly flights on Tuesdays and Saturdays, using a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with three classes.
This move places Air China in direct competition with Hainan Airlines, which began its own weekly nonstop service on the Beijing–Toronto route in November 2024.
The reintroduction of the Beijing–Toronto route is part of Air China’s broader strategy to expand its international network. It comes in response to the rising demand for transpacific travel between China and Canada. As part of this strategy, the airline has reduced its Beijing–Vancouver service from four to two weekly flights, reallocating resources to the new Toronto route.
The return of Air China’s direct flights between Beijing and Toronto is a significant step in the aviation relations between China and Canada. It provides more travel options and increases competition on this important transpacific route.
