Spanish airline Iberia has resumed its direct flights between Madrid and Washington DC, now using the new Airbus A321XLR aircraft for the first time on this route.
The service restarted on Saturday, April 12. Iberia is the launch customer for the Airbus A321XLR, a long-range single-aisle aircraft. This marks the second U.S. route to feature the new aircraft after Iberia first deployed it on flights between Madrid and Boston in November 2024.
The airline, which is part of International Airlines Group (IAG), is also increasing its flight frequency to the U.S. capital. From April through August, Iberia will operate six flights per week. In September and October, the route will run daily.
Unlike in previous years, this route will no longer be limited to the summer season. Iberia plans to offer year-round service between Madrid and Washington Dulles.
The carrier said that using the A321XLR will help strengthen its presence in the U.S. market. This summer, Iberia will operate a total of 140 weekly flights between Spain and the United States. That represents a 14% increase compared to the summer of 2024.
