A tragic discovery was made this week at Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park in Colorado. Park rangers and search teams found human remains in a rugged, hard-to-reach section of the park. The remains are believed to be those of Jordan Marsters, a man reported missing in February.
Marsters was last seen in mid-February when his family reported his disappearance to Denver police. Investigators later found evidence suggesting he had traveled to Black Canyon National Park. Search teams, including drone units and ground rescue volunteers, spent weeks looking for him before locating the remains in an extremely challenging area.
Recovery efforts are still underway due to the difficult terrain. The National Park Service (NPS) is working with specialized teams from nearby parks to safely retrieve the remains. Officials have not released details about the exact location or possible cause of death, but they believe no one witnessed the incident.
This sad news comes as many national parks face budget cuts and reduced services. Black Canyon has closed all campgrounds indefinitely, and other parks, like Arches and Carlsbad Caverns, have also scaled back operations. Visitors to Black Canyon are also being warned about unpredictable spring weather, which can shift from warm sunshine to heavy snow in just days.
The NPS thanked multiple agencies, including local police and volunteer rescue groups, for their help in the search. An official identification of the remains will be made by a medical examiner once recovery is complete.
For now, the park urges visitors to stay cautious, check weather conditions, and respect closures while the investigation continues.
