A Scottish tourist who went missing in Naples, Italy, has been found alive in a local hospital after a frantic seven-day search by his family and friends. Robert Cadger, a 47-year-old football fan from Stirling, Scotland, had traveled to Naples on March 8 to explore the city and watch a Serie A match between Napoli and Fiorentina. However, he mysteriously vanished before meeting his friends, sparking fears for his safety.
Cadger, known to friends as “Bob,” had planned to visit the ancient ruins of Pompeii before heading to Naples’ famous Spanish Quarter to watch the football match. But he never arrived at either location. His friends grew worried when he missed their meet-up and failed to attend the game the next day. When he also missed his return flight to Scotland, his family raised the alarm.
For a week, Cadger’s loved ones desperately tried to locate him. His phone had been turned off since March 11, and his bank card was left behind at his accommodation, deepening concerns. His brother, Euan Cadger, told *The Record* that the family contacted local authorities and hospitals while also searching the streets of Naples. Finally, their efforts paid off—Bob was found in a Naples hospital with multiple broken bones but in good spirits.
The exact circumstances of Bob’s disappearance and injuries are still unclear. His brother described the incident as an “accident” but provided no further details. Doctors confirmed that Bob would need at least two more weeks in the hospital’s orthopedic ward to recover. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help cover medical costs, travel expenses, and accommodations for family members supporting him. So far, over £2,000 has been raised.
While the mystery of what happened to Bob remains unsolved, his family is relieved he was found alive. “We’ve found Bob!!! He’s been located at a hospital in Naples,” Euan shared. “The showing of love and care from everyone has been tremendous!! Thank you!” As for the football match Bob had hoped to see—Napoli won 2-1 against Fiorentina. Whether he got to watch the game is still unknown, but his survival is the real victory.
This case serves as a reminder for travelers to stay cautious in unfamiliar places and keep loved ones informed of their whereabouts. Thankfully, this missing person story has a happy ending.
