In a bold move to attract budget-conscious travelers, Frontier Airlines has unveiled a limited-time “Friends Fly Free” promotion, allowing customers to bring a companion at no additional cost. The deal, which must be booked by March 24, 2025, includes free perks like carry-on bags and seat selection—features that typically come with extra fees on ultra-low-cost carriers.
The promotion is valid for flights through May 21, 2025, but only Discount Den members—Frontier’s subscription-based loyalty program—can access the offer. Travelers must book round-trip tickets on Frontier’s website using the promo code “FLYFREE” and fly on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Saturdays. While the base fare for the companion ticket is free, taxes and fees start at $18.90 each way.
Frontier’s announcement comes just days after Southwest Airlines—long known for its customer-friendly policies—eliminated free checked baggage for most passengers. Seizing the opportunity, Frontier also introduced a separate free checked bag promotion, running from May 28 to August 18, 2025, with the code “FREEBAG.”
Frontier CEO Barry Biffle didn’t hold back, stating, “Some airlines are walking away from what travelers love, but we’re running towards it.” Southwest, in response, emphasized its competitive fares and extensive route network, downplaying Frontier’s move.
The “Friends Fly Free” deal covers popular routes like Austin to Denver, Nashville to Orlando, and Boston to Miami, among others. However, travelers should note that blackout dates and route restrictions may apply.
With this promotion, Frontier is clearly targeting Southwest’s recent policy changes, hoping to lure passengers with free companion tickets and baggage perks. Whether it will be enough to shift customer loyalty remains to be seen, but for now, budget travelers have a rare opportunity to save on flights—if they act fast.
