The Canadian government has released updated travel advisories, urging citizens to avoid all travel to several high-risk areas due to increasing security threats. These warnings come as conflicts and instability escalate in parts of the world, including the Middle East and Africa.
Canadians are advised to avoid all travel to northern, central, and border regions of Ethiopia due to armed conflict and civil unrest. While the capital, Addis Ababa, is not included in the strictest advisory, travelers should still exercise extreme caution.
Due to ongoing violence in the Middle East, the Canadian government warns against all travel to the Gaza Strip where active military operations continue. The West Bank also remains highly unstable, with exceptions only for Highway 1 and Route 90 near Jericho where non-essential travel should still be avoided. Areas within 5 km of Israel’s borders with Lebanon and Syria pose significant risks from rocket fire and military activity. The Golan Heights near Syria should also be avoided due to ongoing military operations. Jerusalem remains under an “avoid non-essential travel” advisory due to sporadic violence.
For Canadians currently in these regions, authorities recommend staying indoors in secure locations, closely monitoring local news and government alerts, avoiding areas with military activity or protests, and being prepared for sudden flight cancellations or border closures. Government assistance may be extremely limited in high-risk zones like Gaza.
While no major security warnings are in place for the United States, Canadian visitors staying longer than 30 days must register with U.S. immigration authorities. Failure to comply could result in fines or legal issues. Travelers can verify their registration status through the U.S. Customs and Border Protection website.
These travel advisories serve as critical safety notices, helping Canadians avoid dangerous situations where emergency consular services may be unavailable. With global tensions rising in multiple regions, checking official government updates before international travel has become more important than ever. The Canadian government continues to monitor situations worldwide and adjusts its advisories accordingly to protect its citizens abroad.
For the latest updates, travelers should consult the Government of Canada’s official travel advisory website before making any international plans. Authorities emphasize that these warnings are subject to change as global security situations evolve rapidly.
