Kimberley’s Waterfall Spectacle Begins as Coral Expeditions Launches 2025 Season

by gongshang07

Australian expedition cruise specialist Coral Expeditions has commenced its 2025 Kimberley season, operating the first of more than 50 planned voyages through Western Australia’s remote northwest. The March 11 departure from Broome marks the beginning of the annual “waterfall season,” when heavy wet season rains transform the arid landscape into a spectacle of cascading water.

The company’s three decades of Kimberley experience informs its custom-designed expedition vessels, built specifically for navigating the region’s rugged coastline. This season’s exceptional rainfall has created ideal conditions for viewing dramatic waterfalls well into June, as swollen rivers plunge from ochre cliffs into the Timor Sea.

Cultural immersion remains a cornerstone of Coral Expeditions’ itineraries. Guests will engage with Traditional Owners through established partnerships with Wunambal Gaambera people and new collaborations with Murajuga Rangers in the Dampier Archipelago. These experiences include viewing ancient petroglyphs, learning about bush tucker traditions, and visiting Tiwi Islands art cooperatives where travelers can purchase artworks directly from Indigenous artists.

The 2025 program continues Coral Expeditions’ focus on small-group explorations, with expert guides interpreting the Kimberley’s natural wonders and 60,000-year-old cultural heritage. The season runs through October, offering opportunities to witness both the region’s dramatic waterfall displays and its iconic horizontal waterfalls during different tidal conditions.
