Viking has officially begun its 2025 European river cruise season as its award-winning fleet sets sail across the continent’s most scenic waterways. This year marks significant growth for the cruise line with seven new Longships joining its European fleet and the recent delivery of the custom-built Viking Nerthus, designed specifically for Seine River itineraries.
The season also introduces three new itineraries along the Rhine, Main and Seine rivers while continuing to offer its popular existing voyages. Viking’s expansion plans remain ambitious with 25 additional river ships expected by 2028 and nine more ocean vessels by 2030.
Operating from March through December, the 2025 season offers travelers more ways to experience Europe’s cultural treasures through Viking’s destination-focused approach. The new 190-guest Longships maintain the line’s signature Scandinavian design while providing increased capacity across European routes.
With its growing fleet and new itinerary options, Viking continues to strengthen its position in the competitive river cruise market while maintaining its reputation for quality service and immersive experiences. The expansion comes as demand for European river cruising shows no signs of slowing, particularly among North American travelers seeking culturally-rich vacations.
Travel advisors can now offer clients more choices and availability across Viking’s European river cruise program, including access to newer ships and less-traveled routes along with classic favorites. The line’s consistent growth ensures it can meet increasing demand while maintaining its high standards of comfort and service.
