The Colorado Tourism Office recently hosted 30 Australian and New Zealand travel agents for an exclusive nine-night trip from 22 February to 3 March. This event, known as the Sno’n’Ski mega famil, gave agents the opportunity to experience Colorado’s top attractions and winter sports firsthand.
Agents earned their spots on the famil after participating in an incentive program held by Colorado Tourism and Sno’n’Ski last year.
The trip featured a variety of exciting activities, including whisky tasting in Vail, a scavenger hunt in Steamboat Springs, snowmobiling in Telluride, and a city tour of Denver. Attendees also took part in Kemo Sabe hat-making, a pub crawl in Aspen Snowmass, and enjoyed ski and snowboarding lessons in Colorado’s renowned ski resorts.
Sno’n’Ski Holidays’ national sales manager, Emily Porter, highlighted the impact the trip would have on her team’s ability to design client itineraries. “Experiencing so many aspects of Colorado has deepened our passion and skills for organizing memorable trips,” she said. “We’ve learned that Colorado’s people, its unique mountains, and 300 days of sunshine create a one-of-a-kind energy.”
Liz Birdsall, from the Colorado Tourism Office, who co-hosted the famil with Jack Curtis from Linkd Tourism, praised the agents’ enthusiasm for the trip. “We crafted the itinerary to include Denver as a gateway destination, which was a first for a mega famil,” she explained. “Denver’s altitude of one mile above sea level makes it the perfect place to acclimatize before heading higher into the mountains.”
Birdsall went on to describe the highlights of the trip, including visits to Steamboat Springs, known for its ranching community, and Vail, which features a historical connection to the World War II 10th Mountain Division. The group also explored Aspen and Snowmass, famous for their snow sports and cultural experiences, before wrapping up their tour in the picturesque town of Telluride, which was used as a western movie set.
“We were excited and honored that Sno’n’Ski chose Colorado for its Mega Famil,” Birdsall said. “Our long-standing relationship with the Australian and New Zealand market made this opportunity essential. It allowed us to showcase Colorado’s offerings and provide agents with a compelling reason to recommend the destination to winter enthusiasts.”
This famil provided agents with valuable knowledge about Colorado’s diverse attractions and ensured that they would be better equipped to promote the destination to future travelers.
