The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) has introduced a new district-based mapping system for Phuket, aimed at making event planning on the island more streamlined and user-friendly. The initiative divides Phuket into four distinct districts, each offering unique venues, activities, and accommodations tailored to the needs of the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions) industry.
The announcement was made during a recent press conference held by TCEB at the Novotel Phuket City Phokeethra Hotel. This initiative is part of TCEB’s broader project, The Southern MICE District: Phuket Series, which aims to position Phuket as a high-value MICE destination. The project also serves as a blueprint for similar developments in Surat Thani and Songkhla, two other key MICE cities in southern Thailand.
Four Distinct Districts for Every Need
Phuket’s new MICE districts—The North Wind, The Lagoon, The Old Town, and The South Shore—are designed to cater to diverse event requirements. Each district offers a unique blend of attractions, making it easier for planners to select the ideal location for their events.
The North Wind: Located in the northern part of the island, this district is ideal for those seeking natural beauty and tranquility. It features serene beaches, mangrove forests, local community experiences, and Michelin-recommended cuisine.
The Lagoon: Stretching across the central part of the island, this district is known for its 5-star hotels, modern facilities, vibrant nightlife, and adventurous activities.
The Old Town: Situated in the city center, this district showcases Phuket’s rich cultural and historical heritage. Visitors can explore traditional architecture, local crafts, authentic cuisine, and a blend of traditional and modern lifestyles.
The South Shore: Located in the southwestern part of the island, this district offers stunning scenic views, beach clubs, shopping experiences, and internationally renowned hotel chains.
Driving Phuket’s MICE Industry Forward
Mr. Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya, President of TCEB, emphasized the importance of this initiative. “Phuket is a world-class destination and a key MICE city in Thailand. The Southern MICE District: Phuket Series highlights the island’s diverse offerings. By grouping these resources into four districts, we aim to simplify decision-making for event planners and organizers, ensuring they achieve better returns on time and investment. This project aligns with TCEB’s 3S strategy—Stay Longer, Spend More, and See You Again—to position Thailand as a premier MICE destination.”
The new district-based approach not only enhances Phuket’s appeal as a MICE hub but also provides a structured framework for future development in other regions. With its unique blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and modern amenities, Phuket is poised to become a top choice for global event planners.
