The Tasman, a Luxury Collection Hotel in Hobart, has announced the appointment of Caroline Smith as its new General Manager. With her extensive experience in the hospitality industry, Smith is set to lead the hotel into an exciting new chapter.
Smith’s career in hospitality spans over two decades. She has made significant strides in the industry, notably serving as the opening General Manager of the Courtyard by Marriott Melbourne Flagstaff Gardens since 2021. There, she established the hotel as a leader in its market. Her outstanding leadership earned her the title of GM of the Year 2023 for Marriott’s Brand Select Hotels in the APEC region.
Her career began in 2001 at The Westin Melbourne, before she moved to London in 2010 to further her expertise with a role at The Langham London. In 2014, she returned to Australia and played a key role in the opening of the Sheraton Melbourne Hotel as Executive Assistant Manager of Rooms. Her leadership skills were further demonstrated in her role as Director of Operations at Sheraton Grand Mirage Port Douglas from 2019, where she led strategic changes that boosted the resort’s growth.
Smith’s appointment at The Tasman comes at a crucial time for the hotel, which has already seen significant recognition. The Tasman was named Accommodation Venue of the Year at the 2024 Australia Hotels Association (AHA) National Awards for Excellence and ranked No. 49 in the global list of The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2024.
In her new role, Smith is excited to continue The Tasman’s success. “I’m thrilled to be joining the team at The Tasman, an icon of Tasmanian hospitality, at this pivotal time in the hotel’s journey,” she said. “I’m looking forward to building on that success and continuing the hotel’s commitment to delivering world-class experiences while honoring Tasmania’s unique heritage.”
With her proven track record, Caroline Smith is poised to lead The Tasman to even greater achievements.
