A Feast Through Time: Hong Kong Palace Museum to Showcase Chinese Food Culture

by Alice

The Hong Kong Palace Museum is set to host a captivating exhibition titled “A Movable Feast: The Culture of Food and Drink in China.” Running from March 19 to June 18, the event will feature 110 remarkable artworks, including eight grade-one national treasures from The Palace Museum in Beijing.

The exhibition is divided into four sections, each exploring different aspects of China’s 5,000-year-old food culture. Visitors will have the chance to view rare artifacts from the Shang, Western Zhou, Song, and Tang dynasties, offering a glimpse into the evolution of Chinese culinary traditions.

The first three sections—“Crossing from Life to Death,” “Crossing Cultures,” and “Crossing Mountains and Lakes”—delve into the spiritual, cultural, and geographical dimensions of food and the vessels used to prepare and serve it. The final section, “Crossing Time,” uses multimedia displays to bridge ancient Chinese culinary heritage with modern food practices, creating a dynamic and immersive experience.
