Wizz Air, one of Europe’s leading environmentally responsible airlines, has once again received a “B” rating in the 2024 climate assessment by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). This achievement highlights the airline’s ongoing dedication to transparency in environmental matters and its proactive stance on tackling climate change.
For the second consecutive year, Wizz Air secured the “B” score, reflecting its continuous efforts to reduce carbon emissions and implement effective sustainability practices. The airline’s consistent performance underscores its leadership in emission reduction, climate risk management, and the integration of sustainability into governance and pricing policies.
The CDP’s 2024 assessment methodology has been updated to evaluate a wider range of environmental factors, extending beyond carbon emissions. The new framework assesses how well companies address climate risks, track progress toward emission reduction goals, and approach sustainability in their operations.
This rating aligns with Wizz Air’s target of reducing CO₂ intensity by 25% by 2030. The airline continues to lead in sustainability by incorporating sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) into its flights. It has already conducted trial flights using SAF blends on two key routes, positioning itself ahead of the upcoming ReFuelEU regulations.
Yvonne Moynihan, Wizz Air’s Corporate and ESG Officer, commented: “We are proud to be recognized by the Carbon Disclosure Project for our dedication to decarbonization. As a leader in reducing carbon emission intensity and climate disclosure, we understand the vital role airlines must play in addressing environmental issues. This recognition strengthens our commitment to promoting more sustainable flying. We’re also educating our customers on the environmental impact of aviation and encouraging sustainable travel. In a recent survey during our SAF trial flights, we learned that our customers want to keep flying, but in a more sustainable way.”
The CDP rating, a globally recognized benchmark, follows the guidelines of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD). As the largest environmental data platform, CDP offers businesses the tools to assess, track, and report their environmental impacts, enhancing transparency and promoting sustainable strategies to address climate challenges.
