The airline’s summer adjustments begin in early May, as Delta discontinues two direct flights from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Central America. At the same time, the airline is reinstating several high-demand domestic routes, including non-stop flights between LAX and Anchorage, Alaska, and Las Vegas and San Jose, California.

Delta will cease operations on two Los Angeles routes to Central America:

  • LAX to San Salvador (SAL): The final flight departs on May 4, 2025, with the return service concluding on May 5.
  • LAX to Guatemala City (GUA): Service ends on May 5, with the last return flight scheduled for May 6.

Other carriers, including Alaska Airlines, Avianca, United, and Volaris, will continue servicing these routes. Delta, however, will maintain connections to both destinations via its major hub at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL).

Seasonal Anchorage Service Resumes

Delta will also reinstate its seasonal flights between LAX and Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) starting May 24, 2025.

  • Aircraft: The Boeing 737-900ER, which includes 20 first-class recliners and 27 Delta Comfort+ seats, will operate this route.
  • Schedule: Weekly flights will depart every Saturday, continuing through August 30, 2025, with service concluding on Labor Day weekend.

This marks Delta’s return to Anchorage service from LAX, a route last operated in 2021. The carrier will be competing with Alaska Airlines for this popular seasonal destination.

Return of Las Vegas-San Jose Daily Flights

Delta will also restore its daily, non-stop flights between Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) in Las Vegas and Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC) beginning June 8, 2025.

  • Aircraft: The Embraer 175, operated under the Delta Connection brand, will serve the route, offering 76 seats.
  • Competitive Landscape: Delta’s return to this route, which was last operated in 2020, intensifies competition with airlines like Alaska Airlines, Frontier, Spirit, United, and Southwest.

Strategic Focus on Market Demand

These route changes underscore Delta’s focus on optimizing its network in response to shifting travel demand. The airline’s decision to cut less profitable Central American routes, while emphasizing high-demand seasonal and domestic services, reflects a clear strategy to maximize profitability and maintain its competitive edge in an evolving market.

By strategically adjusting its portfolio, Delta continues to demonstrate its ability to adapt and thrive amid the dynamic global aviation landscape.
