The San Diego Tourism Authority (SDTA) has announced its 2025 Tourism Accelerator cohort, a program designed to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in the local tourism sector. This innovative initiative provides free membership, mentorship, education, and networking opportunities to businesses owned by women, veterans, people of color, individuals with disabilities, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. It is one of the first programs of its kind in the United States.
Now in its fourth year, the Tourism Accelerator has delivered significant results. According to SDTA, 65% of program graduates have seen an increase in revenue, 45% have created new jobs, and 100% feel more confident in managing their businesses. The program has also built a strong alumni network, where past participants collaborate, support each other, and mentor new members.
“The Tourism Accelerator reflects SDTA’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as a core business strategy,” said Theresa Cunningham, Vice President of People, Culture, and Purpose. “By helping small and diverse-owned businesses succeed, we are creating a more inclusive tourism industry, strengthening our community, and enhancing San Diego’s reputation as a top destination for visitors and businesses alike.”
Diamond Brandon, a 2024 graduate and owner of S&S Friendly Ranch, shared her experience: “This program was incredible. As a growing business, we were thinking too small. The SDTA helped us expand our vision and made our goals feel achievable. They gave us the tools to dream big and work smarter.”
The 2025 cohort continues SDTA’s efforts to build a more inclusive and thriving tourism economy in San Diego. By supporting diverse businesses, the program aims to create a stronger, more vibrant community for residents and visitors alike.
