During this year’s Spring Festival travel season, Lanzhou West Railway Station has seen an unusual addition to its busy staff: a group of international students. These volunteers are helping passengers with tasks like carrying luggage, assisting with security checks, and providing information.
The team of 10 volunteers comes from countries including Kenya, Chad, Laos, Afghanistan, and Madagascar. All of them are currently studying at Lanzhou University. Invited by the railway department, they are experiencing the unique atmosphere of China’s Spring Festival travel rush firsthand.
Kalbe Brai Madoue, a student from Chad, shared his enthusiasm: “With Spring Festival approaching, being a volunteer and helping passengers return home for family reunions is a joyful and proud experience for me.”
The initiative not only supports the railway staff during one of the busiest times of the year but also allows the international students to engage with Chinese culture and traditions in a meaningful way.
